Borough and County Councillor Pert provided an update on activities over the past 12 months. This included:
- County funding was provided towards the cost of resurfacing the tennis courts.
- Flooding has been an ongoing issue and continues to be addressed and discussed with relevant authorities. It was noted there is often a number of contributory factors to take into account. Severn Trent Water are undertaking flood modelling works with flow gauges in a number of locations. The results are pending.
- The upcoming closure on the Stafford Road in June is to enable the County Council to undertake work to alleviate the flooding in that area.
- The High Street resurfacing works will be completed in June, and potholes requiring urgent works have been flagged up for remedial work along The Crescent, the top of Stafford Road and on the Loggerheads Road.
- Speed limit 40mph buffer zones are finally in place prior to the 30mph limits within the town centre.
- A tree to commemorate the Coronation was recently planted in Croxton.
Members discussed the empty commercial properties in Eccleshall town centre and how it would be helpful to understand how businesses could be encouraged. It was noted that looking at successful settlements and their mix of retail offering may provide some useful information.
5). Financial Report:
A financial report containing a summary of the accounts for 2022/23 was prepared and included with the annual report pack.
6). Resident Q&A:
- A query was raised about the expected date for a decision on the planning application submitted adjacent to Castle Mews. It was advised that there is a huge variance in the time taken to make a decision on a planning application within the Borough Council, and there may be factors to take into account if the applicant has been asked to make revision to the original application. Borough Cllr. Jones offered to look into it.
- Flooding – it was asked if local residents are all doing different things to help with flooding and if this can be linked to make it a more cohesive effort. It was noted that the Eccleshall Flood Action Group is one way to bring the activities together. Flooding in the Castle Mews area was highlighted. Borough and County Cllr. Pert noted that some work had been recently completed to clear nearby ditches and dredge debris, but some further work is still needed.
7). Meeting Close:
The meeting finished at 8.00pm
