ECCLESHALL PARISH COUNCIL – FOOTPATHS COMMITTEE MINUTES
February 4th 2026
A meeting of the Footpaths Committee was held on Wednesday, February 4th, at 7pm at Eccleshall Community Centre.
Present were:-
Councillor R. Taylor (Chair) Councillor S. Mifflin
Councillor D. Hill Councillor S. Perren
Councillor C. Wilkins
Mrs S. J. Worden (Clerk)
Mr. N. Davenport
No members of the public
1). Apologies:-
Apologies were received from Cllr. Hall and Mr. G. Cole.
2). To approve the minutes of the meeting held on November 5th 2025
The minutes, which had been previously circulated, were agreed and signed.
3). Review of current maintenance schedule, work completed to date and any new issues to consider.
The updated maintenance schedule was circulated for information prior to the meeting.
- Current items:
- FP17 tree clearance works. This has been reported to the County Rights of Way team who have logged it for action with a deadline date of March 2026. The Clerk will feedback on any actions taken
- FP94 – there is also a fingerpost missing at the start of FP94 by Woodwall Green Farm. It is unclear if it has been removed on purpose. Mr. Cole will be asked to replace. Cllr. Mifflin has offered to help Mr. Cole with the stile repairs on fp94 – it was agreed this would be best once the route is less muddy.
- FP149 – It was agreed to proceed with cutting back of encroaching hedge branches where possible, if Mr. Cole can investigate when conditions permit. It was noted that the route does not allow for the landowner to undertake a hedge cut by tractor. The path has a central trench and gathering water due to frequent use, but this is beyond the resource of the PC to rectify.
It was noted that the hedge along footpath 13 has recently been cut by the farmer, which has greatly improved the route.
- New items:
- FP15 – blocked drains. Debris has clogged the drains to the rear of the old vicarage, exacerbated by flow from a spring further along the path. Both a resident and the parish council Lengthsman have attempted to clear the drains, but they require specialist equipment. This has been reported to the County Rights of Way team for assistance and an update is pending.
- Double stile by the Star at Copmere (FP100) – there is a large tree leaning over due to the weight of the ivy, which if falls will block access. If the ivy is cut back, this may help. The Clerk will pass a request to Mr. Cole to review and report back.
- Further along walk 1 (footpath 100) there is a stile with no stepping board (the board is placed to the side). The Clerk will pass a request to Mr. Cole to repair.
4). Walk Updates:
- Updates to the single walk leaflets are ongoing, as weather permits.
5). Update on Keep Eccleshall Tidy Team (KETT)
- Work of the team is ongoing, and there is a visible reduction in the amount of litter being collected, which is excellent news.
- It was noted that Slindon is still an area for heavy littering, including some items too large to be collected by litter pickers. Mr. Davenport will provide details to the Clerk, for reporting to Streetscene.
6). Correspondence:
- There was no correspondence for consideration
7). Items for next meeting
Any items can be forwarded to the Clerk.
8). Date of next meeting:-
Wednesday 6th May 2026, at 7pm, Eccleshall Community Centre, prior to the Planning committee meeting.
There being no further business, the Chairman declared the meeting closed at 7.20pm.
