ECCLESHALL PARISH COUNCIL – HIGHWAYS AND TRANSPORT COMMITTEE MINUTES- Wednesday, April 1st 2026
DRAFT
A meeting of the Highways and Transport Committee was held on Wednesday, April 1st 2026, at Eccleshall Community Centre at 9.00pm, following a meeting of the Enhancements Committee.
Present were:-
Councillor P. Jones (Chair) Councillor C. Wilkins
Councillor D. Hill Councillor S. Perren
Councillor G. Dale Councillor M. Gosling
Councillor A. Reid Councillor R. Langford
Councillor R. Taylor
Mrs S. J. Worden (Clerk)
No members of the public.
1). Apologies:-
No apologies were received.
2). Minutes of the meeting held on Wednesday, January 7th, 2026:
The minutes, which had previously been noted by the Council were agreed and signed.
3). Staffordshire County Council Highways:
- To receive an update on the consideration of a school crossing point on the Newport Road:
The assessment of the area is ongoing but officers have advised it is being considered in detail as a potential location.
- Additional roundabout signage on the approaches to the Sancerre Gange
It was noted that the standard roundabout signage is in place and there were no suggestions of additional signage that could be forwarded for consideration.
- Additional updates/issues:
- The re-painting of the roundabouts and the zebra crossing is still outstanding after repeated reports and requests for escalation of the issue. The latest report has been assigned a non-urgent works request, even though it has been highlighted as a regular accident spot. This will be reported to the local MP to request support in escalating and resolving the issue.
- Langford will report an issue with ivy overhanging the B5026 road near to Eccleshall Football Club.
- Ongoing concerns were raised about the deterioration of roads in general, delays in pothole repairs and a general lowering of standards in road maintenance.
4). Correspondence
- The members noted and appreciated the resident concerns and frustration regarding speeding vehicles along Lodge Lane and dangers to pedestrians. However, as known with previous unsuccessful attempts to reduce the speed along Shaws Lane, unless there is a history of serious accidents, any action is unlikely.
5). Items for the next meeting
Cllr. Reid will prepare a speed device report for the next meeting.
Any other items for the next meeting can be forwarded to the Clerk.
6). Date of next meeting:- 1st July 2026, following a meeting of the planning committee.
There being no further business, the Chairman declared the meeting closed at 9.20pm.
